A.V. Club | 24 Hours Of Horror With Edgar Wright

The good fellows at the AV Club asked me to come up with 15 horror movies for a 24 hour marathon. I could have picked 115, but here’s my idea of a cinematic night/dawn/daymare. Do try this at home.

(And yes, regular readers may raise an eyebrow at the fact I’ve seen ‘The Manitou’ more than once, while never getting around to watching ‘Gone With The Wind’. It’s just the way I’m put together).

24 Hours Of Horror With Edgar Wright

By Keith Phipps October 25, 2022

It’s become a Halloween tradition around The A.V. Club to ask a horror-movie aficionado to program a 24-hour horror-film marathon that readers can re-create at home. This year, we turned to Edgar Wright, one of the minds behind the classic TV series Spaced (where he worked with co-creators Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson); director of Hot Fuzz!, the zombie comedy Shaun Of The Dead (both co-written with Pegg and co-starring Nick Frost), and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World; and most recently, the executive producer of Joe Cornish’s alien-assault movie Attack The Block. Anyone who’s seen Spaced, Shaun Of The Dead, or “Don’t,” Wright’s contribution to the trailers featured in Grindhouse, knows that he has a deep knowledge of and affection for horror, and the 15 films he selected—organized around Shakespeare’s seven ages of man—did not disappoint. As always, we encourage you to try this festival at home and post your experiences in the comments section.

Nice interview, Edgar — your discussion in there on Carrie was great. Very ambitious with the 7 Ages.  I’ll catch the Innocents & La Residencia soon for this Haloween season.

    — BTW, did you see/like the Trick R Treat movie from a couple years ago? I thought it was pretty good at capturing the spirit of the holiday.

Those first five minutes of “Don’t Look Now” are amazing.  The back and forth imagery just adds so much to Sutherland’s character and the progression of  the story.  Great pick!
