You Are Sex Bob-Omb! Instructional Videos from Brian LeBarton

For all you budding Sex Bob-Ombs, here’s bass and drum tutorials from the man who played those parts on the soundtrack himself and helped coached the actors for the movie.

I give you the amazing BrianLe Barton.

Hey nice to meet you I’m Brian LeBarton. I made these videos a couple years ago to help teach Alison Pill and Michael Cera how to play the drum and bass parts for Sex Bob-Omb since I played them on the recordings for the movie score and soundtrack.

Since Beck and I did these in one take, the parts are improvised and I could never actually re-learn what I played. I’m really impressed with all the other videos I’ve seen of people covering the songs but in case anyone wants any help, here ya’ go!

What I mostly learned from these videos is what a horrible “drumming” face I have! I really shouldn’t be posting these, I look so confused and uncomfortable. But I must face the music. Bash away.

    I don’t know if you use standard tuning or not, but for the bass lines in Threshold, I use
    this. I find this a little easier.

    Is the bass drum used at all? For those of you who want to learn the guitar parts they’re very easy. It’s a lot of basic power chords. For Garage truck the beginning looks a bit like this…

    These are really helpful. Guitar tutorials would be excellent, though, I’ve tried those on my own already, but mostly modeled after Scott’s basslines, so I’d love to play Sex Bob-Omb more accurately.

      Oh yes. Most definitely this needs to happen. It really really should when you consider the film being so video game linked. But definitely not in guitar hero because that’s rubbish. Obv.

    I just cant stop listening to Sex bob omb. I have gone Scott Pilgrim overdrive. Brought all mags and going to watch the film again next week. Have not been this impressed with a film for a long time.

    I was kinda hoping for the guitar tutorials seeing as that’s what I play. Anyway I loved the movie. Saw it twice in a week. I’m seeing it again and buying the Blu Ray =)

      Yes, the Beck versions of Summertime, Garbage Truck and Threshold are on iTunes.

      They’re included as bonus tracks on the Deluxe Version of the Original Soundtrack, it looks like. Had to look for them since they weren’t on the physical CD I bought.
