Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World | Original Soundtrack ~ Digital and Physical UK Release 23rd August, 2010

Music is such an integral part of the Scott Pilgrim books that myself and Nigel have been working on the soundtrack for nearly two years. This collection of songs represents an amazing span of artists. Some inspired Bryan Lee O’Malley in the creation of the comic, some ‘soundtracked’ our lives while making the movie and most excitingly, some of our favourite artists contributed new songs that are performed in the movie. It was a thrill to work with Beck, Metric and Broken Social Scene on the original soundtrack and I think you will enjoy the loud fruits of this collaboration.

I’m going to wait before buying the soundtrack just in case a deluxe edition comes out, would rather spend the little money i have watching the film a number of times at the cinema. I’ve listened to the soundtrack at work, i think it’s great :)

    Dear Edgar,

First off, thanks for making a phenomenal film. I honestly thought it would suck, but urged by a good friend I went to see it with low expectations. Congratulations on making such a great movie! I haven’t experienced the world of Scott Pilgrim until now. Thank you for the great introduction. O’Malley should be thanking you as well for bringing another fan to his world.

Second off, in regards to this post of yours, I have a suggestion. Granted I’m no economist, and I’m certainly no marketer. However, I noticed your comment about possibly releasing another incarnation of the soundtrack if the current ones sell well. As a consumer, hearing news like that in fact makes me not want to purchase the current products. I’m holding out for the one with more content. I would hate to buy the current soundtrack only to find out I missed out on a superior one, which I would probably not be willing to shell the extra money out for (college students only have so much, and let’s face it — we’re a pretty good part of your demographic). You stand to make more cash, as I assume the product you’re talking about will probably be more expensive, and that’s the one I’ll buy. At the core of it, I guess I would simply summarize by saying these soundtracks may not sell well particularly because of the promise of another, better version in the future. Now granted some may purchase them solely to encourage you to develop another version, but wouldn’t that be sort of a let-down for those consumers if that didn’t happen?

Anyway, I’m obviously unable to tell you how to run your financial operations. I’m not in the industry. But as a consumer and a new big fan, I would so appreciate your willingness to produce the better product sooner rather than later. I would also be more apt to trust your products in the future.

I hope the DVD will be great and loaded with cool features, as I’m sure it will. Thanks for making great movies.

    Mr. Wright,

Please include “No Fun” and “Indefatigable” on the Deluxe soundtrack release. They’re too good not to! In addition, it would be really great to hear the rest of Beck’s demos (“Disgusting Rainbow”, “Gasoline Eyes”…), as well as The Clash At Demohead’s “Black Sheep” and Crash & The Boys’ “Zog”, Etc.. Each group has such distinct characteristics. It would be a shame not to release their complete recordings.

    As a side-note…
An indie record store exclusive Sex Bob-Omb EP would be amazing (like their bedroom-recording from the novels). It could include all five tracks heard during the film. It could be releases in a limited edition and perhaps that is where you could include Beck’s demos.

Both that song ‘No Fun’ and ‘Indefatigable’ by Sex Bob Omb (Beck) may turn up on a future volume if these first two sell well.

So I heard the soundtracks at number 1 two months later…Any word on these two tracks yet? >_>

      • Jet

Definately want to make sure this stays on your mind, the small clips in the movie and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np3tjiSz3qE make Indefatigable sound great, and as the poster above said, the soundtrack did well enough to make no. 1 on itunes.

GIVE US AN OFFICIAL RELEASE! 😀

        • Roy

I need to get those two songs now!! I have the small 20 sec. clips of them stuck in my head. I need to listen to the full version to get them out!!

    • Ando

Wait, there are TWO Sex Bob-Omb songs that didn’t make it onto the Soundtrack or the Score? I only recall there being one discrepancy (the song that linozemtsev mentioned, which I assume is “No Fun”). Are… are you saying that there’s a second song that didn’t even make it into the movie?!

  • Iinozemtsev

    Hi, Edgar!

I noticed that there is one Sex Bob-omb song missing from the soundtrack: when Scott enters the Chaos theatre, the band is playing a cool song that goes with everybody singing “nanananana” - but there’s no such song included in the soundtrack. Will it be published in some way or was it a simple improvisation from actors? :))

    Theres a vinyl release…

hopes HMV actually use their import budget well this month.

Edgar… need advice. Here in Hastings our silly Odeon isn’t showing Pilgrim. We have a huge teen population all of whom have been salivating over this movie since it was first announced. They are now gutted as it’s going to cost them even more to go and see it as they’ll now have to travel 30+ miles.
Who/where would I go to argue the toss over this? Local Odeon being stubborn and saying there’s nothing they can do (darn lies as they arranged for the Ian Dury bio to be shown after pressure from the locals) and I need some muscle behind me.

Trust me…these kids (and myself) are likely to see this many times over. If they have to travel…it’ll only be the once.

Any nudge in the right direction will be greatly appreciated to help us all ‘get a life’ 😉 xxx

is the UK also getting the vinyl release?
