Pitchfork have the all the info on the Scott Pilgrim Soundtrack!

In the movie Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, titular character Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is the bassist of a band called SEX BOB-OMB. So it follows that the comic-book adaptation would feature a whole ton of music. As previously reported, the filmmakers recruited Beck to write all the songs for SEX BOB-OMB. The movie’s soundtrack album, due August 10 from ABKCO, features four songs from SEX BOB-OMB, with Beck providing the instrumentation and actors from the movie doing the vocals.

The soundtrack album will also feature unreleased jams from Beck himself, Metric, and Broken Social Scene, credited to the fictional band Crash and the Boys. There’s also classic material from T. Rex, the Rolling Stones, and Broken Social Scene again (“Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl” counts as classic now, right?) Plus the 1997 track “Scott Pilgrim” by the Canadian band Plumtree, which inspired comic creator Bryan Lee O’Malley to name his creation in the first place.

The film, which opens wide August 13, also boasts a score from Radiohead/Beck collaborator Nigel Godrich, which will eventually see digital release. Godrich also served as executive producer on the soundtrack album.

We’ve got the soundtrack’s tracklist below, as well as the movie’s international trailer, which has been causing a whole ton of dork excitement on the internet over the past couple of weeks.

Hello! It’s Brian LeBarton - I played a small role in the magical musical onslaught of Scott Pilgrim. Writing to say that I’ll be playing Sex Bob-Omb out-takes that didn’t get used in the film on my radio show this Friday, July 30th. It airs at 8pm PST/11pm EST on http://www.marfapublicradio.org. It’s not archived so you have to catch it live! Ok, thank you! Saw the movie last night, it’s was f-ing incredible.

Nothing from the real Stephen Stills or Neil Young? Aw, too bad, they both are great songwriters. (Stills in particular) CSNY or Buffalo Springfield both have songs that could be welcome additions. Or was that vetoed for being too obvious?

Awesome! Scott Pilgrim was the reason I stated listening to the Burrito brothers
    Also thanks for replying Edgar.

  • quiffpalmer

what is the music thats been used in all the trailers, and is the end music of the current trailer?

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

There is a Burritos Brothers track in the film. There's at least another six songs in the actual movie, as well as all of Nigel Godrich's score, Cornelius, Dan The Automator and more.

  • Dylan 37

I can't belive there's no Flying Burrito Brothers.
Maybe they'll come out with a “B-side” album (ala the Juno “Almost Adopted songs”) I'd buy it!

Sometimes what can be licensed for the movie soundtrack is impossible (or impractical or just too expensive) to license for the Soundtrack Album.

Hmmm. This is good, but I think it could be better. Songs that inspired O'Malley such as Thrust Hermit's “Oh Man! What to Do?” or others could give more substance to the soundtrack.

I noticed there are a lot of English bands. Not only on the soundtrack, but on the trailer too. Prodigy, Ting Tings, Blood Red shoes. Not a bad thing, just noting.

Sounds good overall. The movie is going to be AWESOME with a double A, so I hope the soundtrack stands at the same level.

  • Braden

Ting Tings and Prodigy in the advert. Guessing that's just for the ad then.

Caught that 9 minute clip at the Q&A with JJ Abrams. This really is going to be the Cameron Crowe/Comic Book/Videogame lovechild that everyone wants it to be, and this soundtrack definitely proves that all the more. I think Mr. Wright is doing for Bryan Lee O'Malley what Mr. Jackson did for Tolkien. In a mostly bleak summer, Scott Pilgrim shall rise above!

Looks good, but missing a few (like The Prodigy) from the international trailer. Are these not going to be in the movie?
