Just found this reply! Thanks Nadine. Yeah those D-Gen guys are the greatest.
Meeting Tony was cool. He was so down to earth and lovely.
hellz yeah I just recently got around to watching all of I’m Alan Partridge and then Knowing Me Knowing You…have to say I vastly preferred the former but Coogan=excellence all around
So much of Britcomedy splits into two schools in the nineties – Armando Iannucci and Vic Reeves.
Armando gave us On The Hour, The Day Today, Knowing Me Knowing You, Alan Paetridge and Armastice while actors, writers and performers he championed went on to Big Train, Spaced, Brass Eye, Fist Of Fun… satire of the human condition.
Vic Reeves was a harkening back to The Goons Show, influence seen directly with the Vic and Bob shows invading celebrity culture as a whole, Shooting Stars being the epitome of that. But their influence was seen in greater silliness with The Fast Show, Rock Profile (and Little Britain to follow), League Of Gentlemen, Mrs Merton and Eddie Izzard.
Then long standing Linehan and Matthews brought the two schools together, working on Fast Show AND Big Train, knitting the influences together into Father Ted and Black Books.
I reckon anyway.
Vic Reeves… cant say I know much about him. Time to do some research.
Now that’s what i call a fun night in. I love Bob Mortimer he always cracks me up when he dances
I’ve only seen half of the first series of Alan Partridge, which is just genius, looking forward to catching up with both series. Hope you get the chance to check out Psychoville soon Ed.
isn’t simon pegg in like 3 seconds of Alan Partridge?
haha fab! Big Night Out – happy memories of ’91.
the chocolate mousse out-take is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen – could watch it forever!
‘He’s a mentalist!’
Alan Partridge.. so funny
Haven’t seen Vic Reeves Big Night Out….
Alan Partridge…is there anything better? “Let’s be appalling.” Greatest sex initiation line EVER.
Oooh Alan Partridge. The one I laughed the hardest was when he hurt his foot while he was trying to climb over the fence and cut it. He then had to give a speech and was suffering through the pain. I laughed till I cried…Niagara Falls man…Niagara Falls…
AHA!
A fucking top nights entertainment right there.. “Jurassic Park!”
Great double! I think the first series of I’m Alan Partridge is my fave – do enjoy the 2nd quite abit too!
”I’m off to a BP garage for a mushroom slice.”
of course the plural of Lexus is Lexi…
ps Edgar were you watching that for young Pegg action or just cos it’s a classic?
Classic comedy!
Who is in your gravatar photo?
Me! Hahaha.
The guy in the picture is Tony Martin. He’s a writer/comedian/actor/director/all round talented guy.
He is from New Zealand but based in Australia (which is where I am)

Thanks Sarah – I am in Australia too and am a fan of The D-Gen etc etc and thought it looked like Tony but wasn’t sure as the pics are so small!! The presence of Tony, Tom, Rob, etc in our popular media here has truly been a relief to me over the years – intelligent writing doesn’t always get to the mainstream, as we are sadly aware.
It is a very nice photo.
