Free open-air screening of Hot Fuzz in Wells, Somerset on Wednesday 23rd September

Hey kids, there’s a free outdoor screening in Wells, Somerset of HOT FUZZ tomorrow night (Weds) to support local industry. Go and see the film in my hometown, which stood in for Sandford itself. You can actually see the film in the very swan chasing location above. Which in itself is spitting distance from the Somerfields used in the film and the Bishops Palace which was used for the jogging scene and NWA meeting. So do go along if you’re nearby and support the City Of Wells. Jog on.

  • Free open-air screening of Hot Fuzz in Wells, Somerset. Wednesday 23rd September, 2009

The City of Wells is famous for being featured in many a film and TV production, and not least for being the location of Hot Fuzz (certificate 15).

To celebrate all things cinematic about the City of Wells, Spend a Night on the Town will be hosting a free open-air screening of Hot Fuzz in the Recreation Ground (between Silver Street and South Street) at 9pm. All those over the age of 15 can come along for a great night out and try to spot all of the Wells locations that Hot Fuzz brought to the big screen.

Entrance to the Recreation Ground (via the main gate in Silver Street) will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis (maximum capacity 500). Please note that if you are lucky enough to look under the age of 15, you may be asked for ID. Alcohol is not permitted.

Don’t forget to bring a blanket to sit on (no chairs please) and a torch to help you find your way home safely.

A designated area will be available for viewers with disabilities - please ask the marshalls on the night.

Dont panic if it rains! Plan B is for the film to be shown in the Bishop’s Barn (maximum capacity 200).

In the spirit of Hot Fuzz, rumour has it that prominent members of the Wells City Council are due to be specially arrested and tried by the Judge from 6pm on the night in question.

Pay a visit to the courtyard in Broad Street to find out who ends up in the stocks!

How about a free screening out here in California? The Governator has zombified most of our industry so we could use a bit of your good cheer!

I visited the UK a few years ago, and spent a day driving aimlessly around southern England and Wales. I serendipitously happened upon Stonehenge, Cheddar, and stopped for food in a small town which looked awfully familiar for some reason. It turned out to be Wells, and the excitement of stumbling upon locales recognizable from Hot Fuzz made up for the fact that there is seemingly no food to be found after 11pm.

I also found myself at one point driving through what my map labeled “The Danger Zone”. So I can now honestly say that I’ve taken the highway through the Danger Zone.

    SWAN!

I hope they will also have a tombola for the pre film festivities!

they shouldn’t need to head for the barn - I’ve heard it never rains in Wells
