As always I make my somewhat OCD end of the year playlist the easy way, by ranking them by play count on iTunes. Coming up then is a very accurate list of the songs that I have played the most in 2014 AD.
First, here are my albums that have got me through this year…
- IT’S ALBUM TIME by TODD TERJE
- ST. VINCENT by ST. VINCENT
- THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK)
- SUN STRUCTURES by TEMPLES
And now for my top 40 most played songs ranked by play count.
Black Messiah - D’Angelo at long, long long last an album from the most talented soul singer since Marvin Gaye.
Broke With Expensive Tastes - Azaelia Banks the most diverse and amazing Hip-hop album since “The Miseducaton of Lauryn Hill”. Ignore the juvenile twitter beefs and listen to the amazing lyrics, singing voice and open embrace of musical styles from Sea Punk, Trap, Soul, Salsa, EDM, classic hip-hop and rock.
man looking at the least makes me realize I know nothing about music.

Great list! What’s your take on The War on Drugs by the way?

Would also like to give a ‘highly commended’ to local kids Geronimo for the Aussie hit of 2014: “Geronimo” http://youtu.be/UL_EXAyGCkw

My 2014 playlist was heavily dominated by The Wiggles and similar but thankfully I managed to squeeze in a few grown-ups songs. Here is my favourite for 2014: “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit (& Jess Glynne) http://youtu.be/m-M1AtrxztU
My iPod is pretty heavily influenced by your playlists. Here, and on This Is My Jam. I’m ashamed to say I don’t know the majority your top forty, but I got a bundle of iTunes gift cards for Christmas so I’ll be downloading them shortly. 🙂 I trust your musical judgement.
