‘Shaun of the Dead’ Photo-a-day / Shoot Day 21 / June 3rd, 2003

Still in the conjoined gardens in Northumberland Road in Barnet and today was the day we impaled the ‘Pyjama Zombie’ to a tree with a swing ball. I love doing scenes in people’s back gardens and yet I would never recommend you let a film crew shoot in your back garden.

I am trying to remember if this was actually the day we did the first fence jump. It might well be. Either way it was the day that Simon Pegg took this amazing photo.

Here I am attempting to out smoulder Kate Ashfield.

I think I was probably in a mood because we were running out of time. We are always running out of time. That hasn’t changed ten years later.

As the owner of the newer of the two houses I can vouch that we do still remember that week. My youngest son ate enormous amounts of your chocolate biscuit provisions and the feet paid for a new floor in our dining room. Just as well as your zombie bled all over our carpet!

How old are your kids now? That’s amazing.

They are all at university now in various parts of the UK. I moved to Vietnam - where GPs are less persecuted (no Daily Mail or NHS managers) and we are renting the house out (sadly the movie connection does not seem to increase its value). I have these photos on my computer.

That’s great! Hopefully this will kickstart a trend of other people submitting any pictures they took at the time, and dramatic revelations will occur when all the pieces are finally in place (“Look at these pictures! It all makes sense now…”), or somebody will have captured an on-location murder on film all unwittingly just like in Blow Up. Or was it a murder, really? just like in Blow Up.
