The Wright Stuff III / Movies Edgar Has Never Seen - The Skinny

So, in short, I’ve done two seasons at LA’s New Beverly Cinema showing favourite movies of mine. For my third season (and last for a while) I had the sudden lightbulb of inspiration that I should show all the classics and cult gems that I haven’t seen.

8 nights, 18 films, 35mm prints, vintage trailers, $8 for a double bill.

Amazing guest hosts include Peter Bogdanovich, John Landis, Joe Dante, Allan Arkush, Greg Mottola, Eli Roth, Richard Kelly, James Gunn, Patton Oswalt, Leonard Maltin, Doug Benson, Rian Johnson, Elvis Mitchell, Josh Olson, Bob Wiede, Larry Karaszewski, Joe Carnahan and That Kevin Smith.

Details and tickets below. See you in the front row.

Raging Bull. And I’ve owned it on DVD for ten years as well. Shocking, I know.

Never seen Raiders of the Lost Ark. When I was editing 2000AD, my assistant Andy Diggle was so horrified by this revelation he announced I was unfit to wear the Rosette of Sirius. I did have the chance to see Raiders at the cinema, but opted to take Patricia Coster to see hardcore German language teens on smack turning to prostitution arthouse movie Christiane F instead. Not the best first date movie choice ever…

Casablanca… I know I should be thoroughly ashamed. Call myself a film fan!

Either “Seven Samurai” or “Air Bud: Golden Receiver”

  • Neill

The Godfather. And everytime i tell people this they all say the same thing. “You are a film student and you haven’t seen The Godfather?” Safe to say i die a little inside everytime.

Never seen godfather part 2. Truth be told I struggled to get to the end of part 1!

  • Bego

    I refused to watch Avatar. I know, I know…

  • Haynesmate

    Citizen Kane

  • Queenoftheeighties

I’ve never seen Die Hard, Robocop, independence day, mad max or rocky. Are these classic films though!?

Jerry Maguire; I’ve spent the past 15 years listening to context-less references to money being shown, having someone at Hello, and the weight of the human head.

I’ve never seen “Casablanca”, “Gone With the Wind” or “The Lion King”.

  • http://twitter.com/fortunesfool73 Shane Dobbie

Never seen ‘It’s a wonderful life’. I do intend to correct this though.

  • Caitlin Wahlstrom

I have never seen Citizen Kane. I keep thinking I shouldn’t see it because I know what “Rosebud” is.

  • Geoff LaTulippe

I think it’s one of the few “must sees” that I haven’t must-seen, but 12 ANGRY MEN has, as of yet, escaped my eyes.

Never seen Thelma and Louise, Silence of the Lambs, Badlands, Glengarry Glen Ross, Nashville or Sunset Boulevard. However I HAVE recently seen Hell Comes To Frogtown, Rock and Rule and Extreme Prejudice so it isn’t like I’ve been slacking off.

  • Lmashell

Gone With the Wind- I am from Alabama, and the gawdawful accents kill me. Never made it thru more than 15 minutes. Avatar- helpless but noble natives needing some white guy to save them. No thanks, seen that one a few times already.

I haven’t seen the ones you list, nor have I seen Titanic, any of the Bond movies, any of the Godfather movies, any of the Alien/Aliens movies, any of the Terminator movies, any of the Friday the 13th movies, any of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies…what else?  Citizen Kane.  Gone With The Wind. TONS of others I can’t even think of unless someone brings them up.  People look at me like I’ve just beamed down from another planet, sometimes, and I just laugh.  What can I say?  I just don’t get around to it, most of the time.

  • Andrew

    Just one?
SCHINDLER’S LIST (though strangely enough I saw Speilberg win the Oscar for it whilst at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion)

  • Jinjerman

I’ve never seen Top Gun. Honestly, I don’t deserve to be born in the 80′s.

  • Brandon_scullion

Godfather. Apocalypse Now. Pretty much every Scorsese film.

  • Jarrod Robbins

Probably “Gone With the Wind.”  I always felt like a jackass, cuz I’m an actor, and I’ve never seen GWtW, but it’s 4…hours…long.

    I’ve never seen The Godfather.

The most famous movie I’ve never seen (yet) is “It Happened One Night”.  I know of it, but hadn’t gotten around to seeing it.

A lot of great movies here. Dr. Seuss, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Frank Tashlin are all heroes of mine, and their comedy really fits well with the humor in your films. Have a lot of fun!

  • Paulasoup

Oh, man.  I always wish for these—wrong coast for me, though.

  • Foggy

You’ve never seen Buckaroo Banzai?!?!? My jaw has literally dropped off, it’s the perfect way to end the film madness, the end credits are the best ever created in the entire universe!

What if I could only attend one double bill?
    Which one should I see?

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

Come for the first triple bill with ‘Scott Pilgrim’. Soak up the love for your poster.

  • http://edyerkerobins.com/ Ed Yerke-Robins

Is that poster going to be the actual flier? Because that’s an incredible tribute.

December 16th is the 4th anniversary of my wife’s & my first date. I mention this because…it was Evil Dead 2 & Raising Arizona & Riki-Oh at the first Wright Stuff!

Neither of us have heard of Hickey & Boggs or Cutter’s Way. We’ll all be going in blind! What fun! Thanks for continuing to support the New Beverly!

What a great first date. Amazing.
