Update: New Beverly Cinema | The Wright Stuff III: ‘Movies Edgar Has Never Seen’

A quick post to say my season of ‘Movies Edgar Has Never Seen’ is being finalised as we speak.

Between the dates of Dec 9th and Dec 16th, I will be screening 7 double features, one triple feature and one midnight movie.

I can’t thank the New Beverly Cinema enough for letting me do this. These are movies I’ve waited to see for the first time on a big screen and with an audience. (That’s you).

Just waiting on two missing slots to complete the line up. There are going to be some great guests too. It’s been quite the education to try and source some of the movies and a little bittersweet to see that decent 35mm prints of some of them are near impossible to come by. But rest assured, the final line up will be quite something.

Off the list are ‘Gaslight’, ‘Deep End’, ‘Zabriskie Point’, ‘Nightmare Alley’ and ‘It’s A Gift’. Why? Well, because I’ve seen them.

Check back in here end of the week for the details of the full 8 days of cinematic overload. Come to fill in your film history blanks with me or see your favourite movie again with a great crowd.

Los Angeles is a town where many will not admit to having never seen some classic or cult movies, but I am a firm believer in being honest about the holes in my film knowledge. I also uphold this thought; it’s never too late to see a movie.

See you in December.

(p.s. Here’s acronyms of some of the films: TGCHI, GC, SBJ, MT, TBD, TFTFODT, K, UOC, CE, WH, TOB, TMWSLV, RTHC, TBONTB, TBNB, HAB, CW, BB or to give it it’s full title: TAOBBATED)

You’re brilliant for doing this. Wish I could fly over to America just for that week. Oh well, have fun you lucky Los Angeles people!

  • http://twitter.com/ThatDudeJoehh Joehh

Why does it have to be in America? Can we have something over in England soon please? With a cherry on top?

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

May be something happening end of Jan in London. Just maybe…

    HULK HEARTILY ENDORSE THIS.

I sure hope that “GC” is “Get Crazy!”

the larger, more important question here is…when do tickets go on sale at the new bev?! missing this would be, well, impossible.

You’ve never seen Buckaroo Banzai? (Also known as the last film in your acronym list. :P ) Man, I envy you, being able to watch it for the first time, not knowing the genius about to penetrate your eyeballs. Enjoy that. I wish I could drive down to enjoy it with you.

TAOBBATED = The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension?

  • http://twitter.com/ROBPEY ROBPEY

Work permitting I’ll try my best to see all of them. I’ll be the big guy in agreen shirt, scar on his face and southern accent….no distinguishable characteristics though.

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

The phrase ‘You’ve never seen…?’ coupled with an exaggerated look of surprise will soon be banned from this site.

But yes, it wouldn’t be in the season if I hadn’t seen it. And there should be a very special guest to hold my hand for my virgin viewing.

  • Swonderful64

    Buckaroo Banzai!

  • Andrew G.

Time to start saving the pennies for this!
Get to bother you again after the movie!

*Crossing fingers that THE LION IN WINTER is part of the lineup*

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

TLIW might have to wait for another season. But you won’t be disappointed with the movies on the schedule.

  • http://twitter.com/BuckyKnaebel Bucky Knaebel

    Buckaroo!!

  • Cronin

Woop! Coming down from Leeds for that!

  • Mr. Peel

I’m pretty sure that I saw the trailer for one of these when I was at the theater last week. But I’ll say no more. Been doing some decoding and am particularly thrilled to see GC listed. And TBONTB. And UOC. And HAB. And each of the others I think I’ve figured out. Can’t wait!

OH BOY TBD (TWILIGHT BREAKING DAWN!)

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

Incorrect: Wouldn’t that be TS: BD PO?

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part One.

    Get with it grandad!

I love LA for reasons like this! Already looking forward to it:)

Will you be speaking before/after the films as has been the case in the past?  Yr Wright Stuff showcases have been some of the very best times I’ve had at the New Bev.  (and thanks for The Super Cops)

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

Definitely before - and with some guests. Book now.

  • http://twitter.com/andrewjoe Andrew Joe

Your last Wright Stuff was one of the greatest pleasures I’ve ever had going to the movies. It wasn’t just a killer line-up but it informed a lot of my film viewing this year. I flew home anxious to expand my mind with INTO THE NIGHT, BULLIT and BLOW OUT.
I’m sad I have to pass on this one, especially since I’ve only seen TOB and BB (I…think), but I’ll have to make due with the small screen and my own list of unseen classics.

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

I cannot remember the acronyms for films not on the list.

Is TBD that To Be Determined film I often here so much about?

  • Anonymous

Hmmmmm.  I was able to figure out them all except for CK.  You sure that’s not a typo?  And shouldn’t TMWSLB be TMWSLV?

It’s a shame All About Eve isn’t playing, but it’s not surprising considering the voting audience.

However, I can’t recommend it enough. It very well might be the best movie about women ever.

I’m not sure whether you said you’d seen it or not - Naussica of the Valley of the Wind :)

if something like this is happening in london, i am going to be there !!
( i live in the netherlands, so it would be easier)

i think i got to check out this site more often..

  • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

That’s still on the shortlist, but it is one that plays a fair bit in LA rep cinemas. If not this time, next time.

  • TypeSlowly

Great!  I have a younger brother who is flying out from the midwest just to attend Wright Stuff III!

    TBNB! Thank you thank you!

CW is either a one entire sitting of the fledgling CW network fall lineup or a tricky bit of misdirection by leaving out a few letters for the full title of the underrated classic, “The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland”.   That’s all  I got.

  • http://twitter.com/JamiePaisley Jamie Paisley

No Billy, that’d be TS: BD POS.

  • http://twitter.com/keithcalder Keith Calder

Great for me! I’m in LA in December, and London in January!
