‘Scott Pilgrim’ is back on the big screen and not just at the New Beverly. Am very pleased to see the movie get a silver screen airing again, in some cases actually in the open air.

So check out these screenings from the US to England, from Australia to Japan.

Let us know if you are planning to attend or have represented at of the screenings around the world.

(Worth pointing out that I don’t organise any of these screenings, that’s up to your own fair cities! You could lobby your local cinema to program it. If you succeed, let us know and we’ll post it up.)

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World | Freedom Gardens, Hull | UK

  • Friday September 2nd at 9pm
  • Watch Scott attempt to defeat the 7 deadly exes of Ramona, his dream girl.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a finger-blistering time capsule of right now. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera, Superbad) is an accidental heartbreaker, a Canadian slacker who obsesses over the girls who’ve dumped him but hardly realizes how he’s dumped other girls. But everything else in his life (including playing bass in a band) fades to insignificance when he lays eyes on Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Live Free or Die Hard), his deadpan pixie dream girl. Unfortunately, Ramona has some serious baggage: seven deadly exes, and Scott must battle them all if he wants to date Ramona. Prepare to have a new favourite movie.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World | THE LATE SHOW: Alamo Drafthouse Ritz

  • Friday, September 2nd 2011 at 11:45PM
  • We’re bringing midnights back! Starting in September, we’re opening up a new programming block for those nocturnal hoppers looking for a bit of late-night amusement after a full evening of whatever it is people do from 8-12 on the weekend. Every Friday and Saturday night we’ll be presenting films built around monthly themes; for September we’re featuring films from the past few years that we think are destined to become cult classics, and in October we’ve got a great line-up of horror films to keep you thoroughly spooked until Halloween.

Scott Pilgrim’s life is so awesome. He’s 23 years-old, in a rock band, “between jobs,” and dating a cute high school girl. Everything’s fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn’t covered in rose petals. Ramona’s seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness. From the ever-changing tint of Ramona’s candy-colored locks to the unmatched video game graphics, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is a ton of fun to watch.

Ramona moved to Toronto from New York City to find peace and quiet and leave her past behind. No one knows what her past is, but Scott will find out very soon as he tries to make Ramona his new girlfriend. Before Scott can begin dating Ramona, he must prove himself by defeating the league of her seven exes who controls her love life. They will do anything to get rid of and destroy any new boyfriend Ramona may consider. If Scott wants to find true love with Ramona, he must defeat all seven, before the game is over.

Every attendee will be entered to win a pair of tickets to the ultimate gaming event DEVASTATION! Also FREE GARLIC BREAD will be served prior to the show!

New York | Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Kung Fu Hustle Double Bill

    SUMMER CAMP CINEMA – 21 May at 23:00 – 22 May at 02:00

    Location:
    Cinema Arts Centre
    423 Park Avenue
    Huntington, NY

Brett Sherris’ Summer Camp Cinema brings martial arts center stage this week with Edgar Wright’s genre twisting live action anime, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and Stephen Chow’s high flying, kicking and punching “Kung Fu Hustle.”

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” is the wild, wacky, and deliciously left of center story of a young man who comes to flying grips with his new girlfriend’s romantic past – and what a past it is! Stylishly directed by “Shaun of the Dead’s” Wright, this enjoyable action comedy stars Alison Pil, Ellen Wong, Elizabeth Winstead, and Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim. (2010, PG-13, 112 minutes)

Blending great silent film era comedy with full blown visceral action sequences, and shifting gears on the spur of a dime, “Kung Fu Hustle” is one of the most richly imaginative, creative, downright enjoyable movies to come along in some time. Surpassing his own “Shaolin Soccer” as the highest grossing Hong Kong made movie in Hong Kong, Chow also stars as Sing, a wannabe gangster in 1940′s Shanghai. (2005, R, 95 minutes)

(dir. Edgar Wright, UK 2004, 99 min.)

Horror and comedy rarely mix, but somehow director Wright and co-writer/star Simon Pegg got the balance exactly right. This smart, funny, and downright scary take on the zombie flick successfully juggles laughs, screams, and — believe it or not — romance with the kind of perfectly disgusting gross-out effects any true fan of the genre should rightfully expect. Pegg stars as a lovelorn English salesman who slowly realizes those blokes stumbling about his neighborhood aren’t drunk but rather dead.

This Friday, ‘Scott Pilgrim’ is the midnight movie at legendary LA theatre, The Nuart; home to the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ for several eons now. It’s a great cinema if you’ve never been.

I sadly won’t be there Friday (I will be here) but my good buddy, leader of Sex Bob-Omb and star of ‘Scott Pilgrim’, Mark Webber will be in the house, along with hopefully some other peeps from the movie.

So join Stills and friends at the Nuart this Friday. And send me photos of the sure-to-be cool marquee.

The supremely charming artwork is by Witney Seibold.

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera, Youth in Revolt, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Juno). A bass guitarist for garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over. Also starring Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick and Jason Schwartzman.

Amazing art by Carlos Lerma with Pilgrim as Machete, Machete as Potter, Potter as Pilgrim!

Cera, Radcliffe and Trejo. The most unlikely badass trio you ever did see. Love it.

3 Hit Combo by *lerms on deviantART

Here’s a great montage of steadicam walking shots by the mysterious Edit Cadet 1. This very particular image, seen in many movies, makes for a fantastic piece when set to Edwin Starr’s ‘Twenty Five Miles’.

What’s more, I’m privileged to have two of my movies in the montage with ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The World’. Am pretty sure the same shot is used in ‘Hot Fuzz’ too. Certainly there’s a shot running along with Angel & Danny in the final shootout.

Whatever. This is jolly good fun, although the ‘Pilgrim’ clip could have continued until John Patrick Amedori exploded into coins, mere frames after they cut out.

Enough nitpicks – this is an amazing montage! How many can you name?

    (via Badass Digest)

UPDATE: The brilliant writer and video essayist Matt Zoller Seitz did a similar compilation back in 2009, this one featuring Godard, the Dardennes and (yes!) a fantastic shot from Temple Of Doom.

A month ago I set you guys the task of coming up with the visuals to an Osymyso mash up revolving around ‘Scott Pilgrim’. The idea was to post the results of the winners on Saturday the 13th to mark the 1st anniversary of the film’s release. So why I am posting this on Monday, a full 48 hours later?

Because the people that contribute to this site are damn fine editors.

So this was the competition I set back in July.

Over the last year I’ve been amazed at all the recuts, re-edits and mash-ups of my films. As someone who spent his teens re-editing movies on VHS, I am extremely heartened by your constant reinvention of scenes from the movies, be it a complex montage or a simple GIF.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’s release OsyMyso has offered up an exclusive musical remix of the fight scenes and themes from the film. I want you to cut the accompanying music video!

On August 13th I will post my favourite of the bunch and there will be a mysterious prize for the victor. Mysterious in that, I don’t know what it is yet.

The mystery is that I still don’t know what the prize is. That is up to the winner.

So who won? Well I have to say it’s been an overwhelmingly response. Everyone who submitted an entry made an incredible effort, so it pains me to only pick one champion. There’s no such thing as a best entry, only my favourite clip. It’s cheesy to say that you’re all winners, but anyone who made the massive effort to enter this is forever golden in my book.

So let’s look at my top pick and ten runners up that will get some signed goodies.

WINNER! Scott Pilgrim vs the World: 1st Anniversary Video Remix | martinovicable

My favourite entry is by Paul Martinovic. It’s difficult to pick a winner and all the entries were amazing, but this was thoroughly well researched, used the largest amount of disparate media and frequently made me laugh out loud. Guest starring Flash, Princes Barin & Voltan, The Beasties, Cheryl Cole and featuring damn near every video game reference from the books and the films, enjoy this great montage.

And what does Mr Martino get as his prize? Well that is up to him. He has to send me a list of ten prizes he’d like and will try and make at least one of those wishes come true. Paul, we will be in touch!

Now let’s look at just some of the other amazing work submitted.

    RUNNERS UP

2 – Scott Pilgrim “One Year Challenge” music video | Jeff Smith

Jeff Smith’s piece is super tight, great transitions all the way through. Brilliantly done.

Scott Pilgrim “One Year Challenge” music video from Jeff Smith on Vimeo.

3 – Scott Pilgrim – Fight Remix | Lee Taylor

Lee Taylor’s piece is armed with super sharp synch and crazy fast edits all the way.

4 – SCOTT PILGRIM vs THE WORLD EDGAR WRITE – OSYMYSO MASHUP CHALLENGE | tracysaven

This clip expertly crosscut elements from the original comics and the Ubisoft video game to thrilling effect.

    5 – Scott Pilgrim Doesn’t Get A Break | Chaosblare

This clip is insane, layering new graphics onto the movie and with crazy additions throughout. A huge amount of work went into it.

6 – Scott Pilgrim Mashed Up | wearetheoxymorons | Fergusmackellar

This entry has tight edits, new transitions fashioned seamlessly out of old ones and great titles throughout.

7 – Scott Pilgrim “FIGHT” Music Video | Zack Beshears

Zack’s piece is beautifully put together, thought out and is thoroughly elegant.

8 – Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World | Osymyso Fight Remix | Hoolopee

This excellent piece of post is by David Post. As well as painstaking roto, he also appears himself as an 80 ft tall, purple suited dude. Now that’s commitment.

9 – SCOTT PILGRIM MUSIC VIDEO FINAL | Elliott Hickey

Elliot’s piece is also very well thought out with great zooms, pauses and splits throughout.

SCOTT PILGRIM MUSIC VIDEO FINAL from Elliott Hickey on Vimeo.

10 – Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Anniversary | OfficialNerdCubed

Another extremely well put together clip with a lot of evident effort from some Official Nerds.

SPECIAL COMMENDATION / Scott Pilgrim vs. The World One Year Anniversary Tribute | MikeKarv

I have to give Mike Karv some goodies too for the insane amount of rendering in this clip. I don’t know how long it took but it is extraordinary.

    And that’s not all

Allow me to have a roll call of some people who made a herculean effort too. Click any of these following names to see some other amazing work.

Bryan Cantwell deserves a shout out for doing three different entries, my favourite being his take on Scott Pilgrim & Spaced.

There was absolute mind melting visual insanity from Notti Rox , as well as Amelia Stephensen. There was a crazy amount of multi layered effects in the work of Elena Alter , as well as Delon Villanueva and Bobby Cohen.

Special goes out to Kyle Stern who did this crazy 15 minute epic that morphs from ‘Scott Pilgrim’ into clips from ‘Fistful Of Fingers’ set to Burt Bacharach, before whizzing through ‘Shaun’, ‘Fuzz’ and ending with ‘Attack The Block’ scoring the Chaos Theatre fight.

Peter Chobits made great use of deleted scenes, Ghost Dinosaur made up a montage with 94 films crosscut with Pilgrim and Scott Pimental made an Arrested Development special with George Michael & Anne Veal out of the track.

And finally much respect to ReallyBigBat, Justin Davila, Ryanb901, Cory Musselman, Paul Blewitt, Jeff Yorkes, Daniel Yi, Freddy Franco, Edgar Cameron, Lewis Somerset, Josh Franklin, Sean Holdsworth, Vincent Rogue, The Real Film Geek and Nick Nakasu.

All of you and indeed everyone who entered did an incredible job. I feel warm and fuzzy, my eyeballs are the shape of computer screens, I am very touched and mostly, I am very impressed.

    You all rock.

    Two things.

Based on the graphic novel by Brian Lee O’Malley
Containing: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Johnny Simmons, Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza, Alison Pill

People all around the country are madly obsessed with this brilliantly intelligent, coming-of age extravaganza! On par with films such as RUSHMORE and ELECTiON, it’s chock full of progressive poignancy, 8-bit nostalgia, really-relatable side characters (with Kieran Culkin giving one of the greatest performances ever!) and a unique, unstoppable creativity that proves that Mr. Edgar Wright is a modern force to be reckoned with. Not only is this the movie you would have snuck into ten times to see when you were a teenager, it reminds you that you can still do that sort of thing… RiGHT NOW! 35mm print courtesy of Universal. 112min.

NOTE: There will be a Q&A on stage with Edgar Wright and Jesse Hawthorne Ficks immediately following SCOTT PiLGRiM.

    9:45pm – HOT FUZZ (2007)
Written by Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright
Containing: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman

Capturing the "buddy cop" genre has been attempted before and after this brilliant little ditty (see Kevin Smith’s COP OUT and Adam McKay’s THE OTHER GUYS), but what makes HOT FUZZ such a contemporary classic is that it actually achieves it’s own place alongside the films it’s in love with: POiNT BREAK and BAD BOYS 2. This genuine British Bro-mance between real-life BFFs, Simon Pegg & Nick Frost will completely sneak up on you, as they strive for purpose through their small town shenanigans. 11:59pm – SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004)
Written by Simon Pegg & Nick Frost
Containing: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield & Lucy Davis

Riding high off their decade defining TV series SPACED (1999), this gang of Brits translated their genius to the big screen and gave the world one of the all time great Zombie parodies while at the same time (like HOT FUZZ) carving out it’s own top-spot within the genre it loves! What would a couple of modern day stoners do if the world were overrun with flesh eating corpses? Edgar Wright and company deliver a bloody great romp that only gets better and better with multiple viewings! This must be seen at the greatest movie theatre in the United States with the director IN PERSON introducing it to a whole new generation preceded by a RARE 35mm print of Wright’s Grindhouse trailer DON’T! Shiny shiny!

Check out this spiffy new packaging on my three movies below. It’s an instore exclusive at HMV and while there’s nothing exactly different about the movies themselves, they do have these rather fancy designs by the people at Hicksville.

How new are they? I don’t even have my copies yet!

I thought you might like to see these nice covers close up and see a rather amusing advert where Pilgrim, Shaun and Nicholas Angel nudge shoulders with Hellboy, Riddick, KickAss and the motherfucking Hulk!

    Enjoy.
