The Three Noels

I just watched Kate Bush’s trippy video for ‘Deeper Understanding’ which was directed by the great lady herself. And edited by Paul Machliss (he of ‘Spaced’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim’ fame).

It was very nice to see my good friend Noel Fielding make an appearance in there too. I’ve worked with him a number of times over the years and the inclusion of him in a Kate Bush video pleases me no end.

Check out the video.

Going further back, allow me to repost the video I directed with Noel in 2003 for Mint Royale. It’s still one of my favourite things I’ve ever directed. If you’ve never seen it, here’s the music video for ‘Blue Song’. Also featuring Julian Barratt, Nick Frost and Michael Smiley.

Okay, you might have seen that one before? So how about a deeper cut?

This turned up on YouTube from the first BBC TV show I ever directed; ‘Alexi Sayle’s Merry Go Round‘ from way back in 1998. The series featured many (then) up and comers such as Reece Shearsmith, Jessica Stevenson, David Walliams and Peter Serafinowicz. It’s also never been on DVD.

But this little sketch from ‘Merry Go Round’ features a very young Mister Fielding.

So, enjoy the first Noel.
