Glove, Actually

Got this comment from Jeff Smith, the creator of a slap happy cinematic montage; ‘Glove, Actually’.

I had seen and loved his work online a couple of weeks ago and was very pleased to see ‘Shaun’ and ‘Pilgrim’ in such esteemed company. The two slaps from ‘Pilgrim’ are favourites for me as Michael Cera slapping Mark Webber in the face makes me laugh every time.

And to be included in a montage that features Sean Connery slapping Margaret Nolan’s bum is a great honour indeed.

Here’s the comment from Jeff, the clip and my name drop heavy reply.

I recently finished this mashup of cinema’s greatest slaps, and you’ll be pleased to see that “Shaun of the Dead” and “Scott Pilgrim” made the cut - check it out for some slap-happy madness. Enjoy!

Okay. Get this. And apologies for the name drop.

But I had seen your montage before and was very pleased that Shaun and Pilgrim made it in there.

Then I saw Sam Raimi at a genuine Hollywood party and for some reason our conversation turned to cinematic slaps and vocal slap sound effects. True.

I asked him if he’d seen your montage ‘Glove, Actually’ as it featured ‘Army Of Darkness’. He had not.

I sent it to him that night and he loved it.

So there you go.

CLANG. Told you it was some namedrop. And at a Hollywood party no less!

P.S. Jeff Smith just sent me the list of all the films featured.

Glove, Actually - the films revealed!

Due to the blink-and-you-might-miss-it nature of many clips in Glove, Actually - An Ode to Cinema’s Greatest Slaps (and in case anyone is actually interested in the context behind these slaps), I thought it only fair to post the full list of movies used in the tribute and put to rest burning questions such as, “Who is that guy???” (2:33 and 5:39). Well, correction - I’m not going to say who, but since you have the title, now you can watch and find out for yourself! So, as promised, here is the list of clips in its entirety, in the order they appear in the montage:

    Mr. Wright -

I’m so glad you enjoyed “Glove, Actually”! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your above post/comment - considering how big a fan I am of both you and Sam Raimi (“Why wouldn’t I be?”), it truly left me both stunned and honored. As a matter of fact, I listened to your “Scott Pilgrim” Blu-ray commentary just this week, so to stumble upon this entry around 2 AM really made my day (heck, made my week, month, year!).

Thanks so much for watching, and keep up the good work!

    - Jeff Smith

It was only natural to see the slaps from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World in this video… Although I still can’t believe the slap from Videodrome wasn’t included.

Now I feel like I’ve seen so many slaps, it isn’t even a gesture anymore. Like when you see a word too many times. Weird o.0
