My Top 100 Tracks of 2010 by my iTunes Playcount

It’s been a busy holiday season for me, so I haven’t had time to do a Top 30 tracks of the year or a favourite albums list. Boo.

So why not blog something a lot more honest and revealing?

Here, for realsies, is the Top 100 tracks that I’ve listened to the most this year according to my iTunes play count.

I made a few omissions of some Scott Pilgrim score and soundtrack stuff, as I listened to them a whole lot this year for work. Rest assured NIgel Godrich’s Universal Fanfare got a lot of play. But I’ve also left a couple of key tracks in.

Bubbling under the Top 100 are a whole bunch of gems like Anamanaguchi’s ‘Party Stronger’ from the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack, ‘Radar Detector’ by Darwin Deez and ‘The Gaudy Side Of Town’ by Gayngs.

Not to mention tracks by Foals, Beach House, Panda Bear, Salem, Yeasayer, Dum Dum Girls, Sleigh Bells, The Walkmen and more.

But enough about them, it should be pretty clear what my fav new tracks, my fav oldies and my fav albums of the year were from this list below.

The play count never lies!

Happy New Year to all.

It makes me so mad I want to punch a baby that none of the songs from Scott Pilgrim were nominated for the Oscar’s Original Song!

Dig the list though, I recommend ‘Yeasayer’ if you haven’t heard them already.

  • Sulu

thats a pretty sick list edgar

  • csanchez

holy crap you listen to surfer blood…
    awesome.

I see someone likes him some Gorillaz, I take it you’ve heard “The Fall” by now?

By the way, stop introducing me to new, awesome bands! Shaun started my love affair with Ash, now Scott Pilgrim gives me Metric, Anamanaguchi and Broken Social Scene., I heard the Janelle Monáe track Tightrope on your New Years Special on 6, and immediately had to get the record. Also, I’m now obsessed with Blood Red Shoes.

My ears thank you, my wallet wants to kick your ass.

Ah, so you did get Crystal Castles.
Ashamed to say even though I bought it when it came out (winter of 2009?), still not listened to it all the way through.
Nice to see The Monkees in there too.

  • Frederique

I was searching for the Klaxons to make this a perfect list annnd I found it. You have a perfect (according to me) taste in music =D

Eyy! There is actually some overlap between your iTunes and mine! OK, it’s mainly The Beatles but that’s a start 😉

I do have Vampire Weekend, Tron Soundtrack and Scott Pilgrim Soundtrack too - but those are really my hubby’s more than mine.

Oh and of course I love that Cee Lo song too :)

  • http://twitter.com/davidrstrong David Roland Strong

I know nine (9) of these (I don’t get out much). I’m glad you listed NO REPLY; the music is excellent (quasi-classical dynamics in pop-rock, among other things) and the lyrics are genius. Let’s all make each other happy!

  • onlybob

Awesome Work as always!.. from sudamerica..especially with the scott pilgrim soundtrack d(o.o)

  • AmberGrindstaff

    Ah awesome variety!!

    Thanks for sharing Edgar

I am over the moon that you did this. I am not lying when I say my current music taste has been formed as a result of these end-of-the-year music blogs you’ve been doing. Thank you, sir, I am eternally grateful!

Warms my heart to see LCD Soundsystem on there. “Dance Yrself Clean” has the most intense drop. I lose my shit to it. My dream (albeit it’s an unrealistic one) is for you to direct an LCD music video. I’d probably lose my shit to that, too. Me gusta.

I’m surprised that Black Sheep is only at 14 plays on your list, because it’s at 31 on mine, but I suppose having to edit that scene over and over again leaves you wanting to listen to something a bit different when it comes to leisure time.

  • http://chrisblundell.com Chris Blundell

I’m loving the fact that the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim creeps in there. Although, I’m sure that it wasn’t listed as part of the Scott Pilgrim OST when it was displayed in your iTunes. 😉

And yeah, the Tron:Legacy Soundtrack just made my head spin. The whole movie was a geeks dream. Scott Pilgrim too. Geeks are taking over it seems.

Edgar, would you ever consider a voice cameo in a fellow geeks movie?

  • gautsid

    Excellent taste, as expected.

Just wanted to give you a hat tip/thanks because T-Rex - Teenage Dream was my 7th most played track of 2010 (76 playcounts). I’d never heard of the song before Scott Pilgrim; perfect placement in the movie.

Happy New Year! Cool list. Black Sheep is my fave of the year.
Now for something completely different. A not quite complete Trailer for John Carpenter’s “The Ward” has popped up…

seems like someone rediscovered a passionate love for Gorillaz this year. that (Plastic Beach) and This is Happening, my personal favorites in 2010.

    good stuff.

  • Lore23

Never thought I could love someone I’ve never met so much. You are a perfect person Edgar. By your choice of music, I can tell you live a happy life.

  • B-Fisch

Gotta love “Land of 1000 Dances”! Do the watusi! (Was always partial to the Wilson Pickett version; his screams are legendary, but good music is good music.)

  • Tom

Drunk Girls = best video of 2010?

I see you liked Derezzed from Daft Punk. Get the whole TRON: Legacy album, it’s AWESOME.

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

I have it! These are not the only 100 tracks I listened to this year!

  • Legend_fish

I’m so glad that Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles is representing so much. I love that album, and I’m always trying to show it to people! It’s pretty damn good.
