Glad it’s finally out over there. On an equally awesome note, at a late Christmas party last night I got someone to make me an Edgar Wrightini, and it was delicious.

What’s on the iTunes version, and does all special features (included on Bluray and UK DVD) come with it via iTunes Extras?

  • Ad

The Edgar Wright box set, also released today… does that contain the special features for this (or SotD & HF)?

    Thanks!

I Pre-ordered mine without knowing there is no post for 2 days now. I would have just gone out and bought it at a shop or something.

Does every copy of the Blu-Ray come with a DVD and digital copy? Because I looked on play.com and Amazon etc. and I’m confused as it doesn’t seem like it…

I haven’t purchased a film yet via iTunes, but the Digital Copy that was sent to my iPad via iTunes did not include any bonus features. (This was in the U.S.)

Since it is the blu-ray, one can assume it will have all of the extras for all 3 films. I won’t know until later this week for sure. Hopefully someone on this forum will get it before I will and be able to answer that before the very fair price on the 3-film boxset go up…

  • http://flickr.com/suomynona Matthew

In North America — as far as I know — there was only one blu-ray version. In the UK, there are at least three. The one identical to the North American release, then there is the steelbook and the 3-film boxset (Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/SPvTW). I don’t know if the last two also come with digital copies. My guess is probably on the steelbook and no on the boxset.

If no one responds before I receive my copies, I will do so later this week when I receive them from Amazon UK.

Nope, no digital copy on the UK blu-ray versions. Bit of a bummer really as the US version has it as standard. Also not sure why it’s called ‘Collectors Edition’ as it’s the standard one, it’s not like there’s a bare bones one you can buy. Still, great film and superb extras though.

On the U.S. copy, the digital version has to be downloaded from iTunes, and you only have a limited time to download it. It’s called the Collector’s Edition for the same reason the 15th release of the “Saving Private Ryan” DVD will be called the Collector’s Edition. That release of SPR will finally have a commentary track and a blooper reel.

Kidding aside, Edgar can release his films as Collector’s editions because he doesn’t rape your wallet every one or two years like Lucas/Spielberg/Cameron. There isn’t more he can put on these other than…

Audience track — like on the Grindhouse blu-ray. That’s awesome. Say from the recent Toronto screening or even better the SDCC screening. I’m guessing nobody recorded the audience reactions though. Perhaps something to consider at a future midnight screening at the New Beverly…

    SDCC Q&A

    Eventual Paley Fest get together.

The Q&A with Guillermo del Toro. Other than when it ran long and the on site Universal crew that shot it professionally ran out of tape — Boogie Nights style — about a minute was lost — the entire thing was shot in beautiful HD. That would make for a nice bonus disc. Side note: neither the “director” or the camera operator of that Q&A had seen the film. They didn’t stick around to watch the screening either…

I may have missed it, but the deleted scene where Kim Pine says, “That was epic.” It’s in the trailer, but I believe it’s missing from the blu-ray. It was probably cut for time, and not included on the blu-ray because it was only 3 words. No need to include an extended scene for only 3 words… still…

Lucas/Spielberg/Coppola/Cameron would re-release it with the 3 words and charge you $39.99 for it.

There is always more footage. Stuff that was cut. Possibly shot. An interactive cut of the film where fans could be the editor and insert scenes that were cut that they thought were funny. I can think of two that I’d probably add back in. When Scott meets Knives on the bus and when he walks in on Wallace — the 2nd time.

Brief interviews with directors that saw early cuts of the film. Tarantino? Smith? Toro? and the others…

Short of that (and other things that people might come up with) — an Oscar Wright and Edgar Wright commentary track — that’s why this release of the blu-ray is called the Collector’s Edition, in my opinion.

You’d be hard pressed to improve upon it.

I must compare this to the Oz release - are the special features the same?

    I got the non-blu-ray-version but got the 2-disc non-blu-ray not the 1-disc non-blu-ray.

Could anyone answer a question? I live in America and a while back I bought this as single disc dvd. It doesn’t have any of the extras mentioned above like “making of” or whatever. So I want to get one of those, but I don’t have a blu-ray player.

So my question is, in the dvd/blu ray combo pack, are the “making of, Sex bob-om music videos, trailers, ect.” on the dvd half or just the blu-ray half? Or is there some kind of collector’s edition that is only two dvd’s. Actually I see a link to one down there but that it only for Amazon in the UK. I can’t replicate that non bluray collector’s edition here in the U.S. amazon, it’s just blu ray/ dvd combo or nothing. I’ll keep looking into it. I just want to watch some of those awesome extras on my american non-bluray player.

    You’re welcome :)

I prefer the artwork on the steelbook version — especially inside. Also, it’s a bargain at that price. In about a year, they’ll be going for at least double that on ebay. (Check out other “steelbook” blu-ray titles on ebay.)

I agree though. It’s nice to have the digital copy on the macbook and ipad just in case I’m somewhere and want to watch it or show a few minutes of the movie to someone to get them hooked.

Unfortunately — at least on the versions of “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” that I own on DVD/Blu-ray — the extras are only on the Blu-ray version. That said, Blu-ray players are very cheap now. When I bought my 1st generation PS3, it was $499. You can find stand-alone players now for less than $100. Check your Sunday newspaper’s ads for the best prices. I recommend buying one that can have the firmware updated over the internet (either hardwired or via wifi).

I bought my Blu-ray player to upscale my vast DVD collection — which is the best reason to buy a Blu-ray player. Of the 3275 DVDs I own, only 49 of them are Blu-ray. I generally only buy Blu-ray copies that either people recommend (Enter The Void), have extras that aren’t available on the DVD (LA Confidential), or the sound and video are such an upgrade over the DVD version (SPvTW, Apocalypse Now, Alien Anthology, etc). Otherwise, the DVDs I already have are fine when they are upscaled on the Blu-ray player. Side note: I’ve never used the PS3 for gaming. That’s the Xbox360′s job.

There’s an Australian 2-DVD (non Blu-ray) version? If that’s true, then it’s possible that the extras are on the 2nd DVD — unless the 2nd DVD is a Digital Copy. That would be the first DVD (non Blu-ray) version that has the extras on it. As far as I know, the extras are only available on the Blu-ray…

“Titanic” forced me to upgrade to laserdisc in 1998 (wanted to hear the ship coming apart in 5.1). I bought a DVD/LD combo player at that time. If I didn’t have a Blu-ray player yet, the extras on SPvTW — not to mention “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead” — would have forced me upgrade to Blu-ray.

  • Big Scott Pilgrim fan

Hey thanks for the info. I may have to break down and buy a blu-ray player. My 360 has a really loud fan so it’s kinda annoying to watch movies on anyway. And yeah, I’ve pretty much confirmed there are no non blu-ray collector’s editions in America. I think there are some in the UK, but then I get into region protected non sense. By the time I get this figured out, I’ll at least save some money because it will be cheaper!
