It’s been a busy holiday season for me, so I haven’t had time to do a Top 30 tracks of the year or a favourite albums list. Boo.

So why not blog something a lot more honest and revealing?

Here, for realsies, is the Top 100 tracks that I’ve listened to the most this year according to my iTunes play count.

I made a few omissions of some Scott Pilgrim score and soundtrack stuff, as I listened to them a whole lot this year for work. Rest assured NIgel Godrich’s Universal Fanfare got a lot of play. But I’ve also left a couple of key tracks in.

Bubbling under the Top 100 are a whole bunch of gems like Anamanaguchi’s ‘Party Stronger’ from the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack, ‘Radar Detector’ by Darwin Deez and ‘The Gaudy Side Of Town’ by Gayngs.

Not to mention tracks by Foals, Beach House, Panda Bear, Salem, Yeasayer, Dum Dum Girls, Sleigh Bells, The Walkmen and more.

But enough about them, it should be pretty clear what my fav new tracks, my fav oldies and my fav albums of the year were from this list below.

The play count never lies!

Happy New Year to all.

This 2010 film montage scores extra points for crosscutting Scott Pilgrim with the opening credits to Enter The Void, my favourite title sequence of the year.

The song used is “A Dustland Fairytale” by The Killers.

This is the fifth video I have created in my “Cinescape” collection, a series which packs footage of the many films released in the past year into one video.

I am a huge believer in the notion that while some films may be for adults and others for kids, and while some films may be of higher quality than those aimed at the lowest common denominator, escaping into the world of a film is a universal experience that we all crave, no matter who we are or how greatly our tastes differ. The goal of this video is to at least begin to capture the essence of what that lose-yourself-to-film feeling is like…and to show just how many kick-ass movies 2010 gave us (because it’s pretty easy to forget).

Chronological Movie Listing: here.

I spoke with the mighty Kevin Smith for an epic 2 and a half hours at the Smodcastle.

Hear stories of Fistful Of Fingers, Spaced, Scott Pilgrim as well as various spooky doings and silliness.

Was lots of fun. Enjoy.

SMOVIEMAKERS #2: Pilgrim’s Pride

Kevin Smith bullshits with SHAUN OF THE DEAD filmmaker Edgar Wright.

Listen here now.

Finally, a Q&A for ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The World’ back in my hometown of Lon-don and in one of my favourite screens in the city, Brixton’s Ritzy Cinema.

See you on New Year’s Eve Eve, the 30th of December! I will be there with bells on.

Following the cult successes of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ, Spaced creator Edgar Wright goes Hollywood for his third feature, SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD.

Billed as an ‘epic of epic epicness’, it’s a candy-floss explosion of video game SFX and comic book nuance that promises to take the fanboy world by storm.

Michael Cera (JUNO) stars as the eponymous nerd who falls hard for a rollerblading high-school cutie called Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, DIE HARD 4.0).

But before he can win her heart, our docile hero is forced to face up to each one of Ramona’s seven evil exes.
Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel, Wright’s film is an electrifying visual feast in the KICK-ASS vein.

Event: Scott Pilgrim vs the World plus Edgar Wright Q&A
Location: Ritzy Picturehouse, Brixton, Screen 1
Date and time: Thursday 30 Dec, 20:00

Further Information can be found at Ritzy’s website here or to book now click here or call the Ritzy Box Office:

This was edited by 19 year old Joel Walden from Toronto, Canada.

And I, Edgar Wright am flattered and awed by his efforts.

Beware spoilers if you haven’t seen all three films though.

Come back when you have. Rectify!

Check out more of Joel’s work here.

Joel, amazing work. Now you need to do one including Spaced, Don’t and A Fistful Of Fingers for the full set!

Dear Guillermo Del Toro.

Have I told you lately that I love you?

LOL: Guillermo Del Toro Signs Scott Pilgrim DVD
Posted on Thursday, December 9th, 2010 by Peter Sciretta

/Film reader Tim Caballero brought his copy of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to Guillermo Del Toro‘s autograph appearance and got the filmmaker to sign his DVD. Del Toro has been a vocal supporter of Pilgrim director Edgar Wright and the film and even interviewed the director, cast, and crew at a recent screening (watch the video here). I retweeted a photo of Tim’s autographed Pilgrim DVD on Twitter but thought that the non-twitter site readers would enjoy the laugh as well. Now if only Universal used this exact del Toro quote on the dvd cover, movie poster and television ads…

Okay, this is in no way new, but this still one of my favourite comedy scenes of the last decade.

From the deleted scenes on the DVD of ‘Summer Heights High’ watch Chris Lilley as Mr. G perform in front of school kids who are barely holding it together.

The moment at 3.37 gets me every time.

If you haven’t seen this before, enjoy. And if you have, enjoy again.

Come back Mr. G, we miss you.

From ABC TV’s ‘Summer Heights High’ (2007).

Chris Lilley, I await your new show with anticipation.

Hey there London, will be with you on New Year’s Eve’s Eve at Forbidden Planet. I think my third signing there. Look forward to seeing those of you who can make it out.

Thursday 30 December 17:30 – 18:30

London Megastore
179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR

Forbidden Planet are delighted to announce that director EDGAR WRIGHT will be signing the DVD & BluRay release of the smash-hit movie SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2H 8JR on Thursday 30th December 5:30 – 6:30pm

From the comic books by Bryan Lee O’Malley, this is the level-up movie that brought Scott Pilgrim onto the big screen. He’s charming, he’s jobless, he plays bass for garage band Sex Bob-omb – and he’s just met the girl of his dreams. Now, her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Scott Pilgrim vs the World is released on Blu-ray and two disc DVD on 27th December from Universal Pictures.

Edgar Wright is a genre-smashing creator as writer and director on ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ and cult TV series ‘Spaced’. In Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, he brings to life the tale of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love – and the DVD release of the movie is absolutely packed with extras.

Due to time restaints, there may be limits on the number of items to be signed.

This title will be available at the signing or click here to pre-order. DVD | Blu-Ray
