Artwork refers to USA/Canada release

Myself and the team worked around the clock on these extras, so I hope you appreciate them when the Blu Ray / DVD hits the streets in North America on November 9th.

A lot of tender loving care went into hours and hours of behind the scenes goodies, which show just how much work went into this film in the last few years.

I do hope you enjoy what we’ve put together.

So let’s have a look at what’s on the Blu Ray and DVD shall we? Right after one of our many production stills, this one from Young Neil himself, Johnny Simmons.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE CRITICS

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World slayed critics of every generation with its highly stylized visuals. The New York Times’ A.O. Scott raves “You may want to see it again as soon as it’s over.” Jeremy Smith of “AintItCoolNews” calls the film “Wholly original. There’s never been a movie like it” and Rossiter Drake of the San Francisco Examiner pronounces it a “bold, brilliant spectacle.” Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is “far and away the funniest movie of the summer,” according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Roger Moore, and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls the film “a breathless rush of a movie that jumps off the screen, spins your head around and then stealthily works its way into your heart. It’s a game changer.”

SYNOPSIS

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-Omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

This is completely ridiculous, but I might buy both because the cover art is so lovely in both colors. And by “buy both” I mean buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out and buy the DVD when I have more money…some time…later.

Here in Portugal it’s only coming out in theaters in December as well… but I travelled to London to see it on opening day!! My jaw dropped as soon as I saw the Universal logo… and then you put Zelda music in a scene or two… I can’t thank you enough for this piece of epic awesomeness!! You never disappoint!
Anyway I was wondering if the US bluray will be compatible with european players as a lot of them are. If that were the case I’d buy it as soon as it came out… It’s a long wait ’til December…

It’s a shame it’s going to DVD release so fast, but just like the soundtracks/game/movie, I’ll be there on opening day to buy both BluRay and DVD copies. You did a great job on this and this DVD will be watched till it can’t play anymore.

I love those! But I don’t remember any swearing in Scott Pilgrim (“How are you doing that with your mouth?”) Alas there must be, otherwise it wouldn’t be a featurette. Must need to watch the movie again…

There were a few “goddamn”s(Stephen Stills having a meltdown before a gig), a few “shit”s(Peppered throughout), “cock” once or twice(You cocky cock), quite a few middle fingers went flying, and I know there are at least a few “ass” bombs. No “fuck”s though, which was nice seeing as they never once used it in the books.

Can’t wait to get the UK Special Edition DVD! Wish it was out soon, is the Special Edition one the one that’s out on December 27th ish?

Thanks for all the hard work you put into this film and DVD. It’s amazing and deserved to do so much better.

Wha-wha-what? DVD!? I dunno if I’m done watching this at the cinema yet, 3 times & counting! Probably goes without saying but I REALLY like this film. Oh well, a possible Dec 27th release date gives me the perfect upper from my inevitable post-Christmas blues. Until then I’ll make do with the OST, & being continually outbid on those damned gorgeous Martin Ansin posters. Anyone got one? Can I just have a look, I’ll only go round the block on it, honest…

I may get the BR/DVD/DC combo just to get the digital copy… don’t give two shakes about the Blu-ray right now as I don’t have anything that’ll play it. But the digital copy is enticement enough. Won’t cost much more than the DVD only version anyways I’d bet. Don’t usually at time of release. But ofc the UK release may be different T-T. When is that btw? XD

And then in Spain, we have to wait till December to get it on theaters. Thanks for nothing, Universal…

Anyway, this gets me hyped and if the UK version they’ll get the 2-DVD feature with all the extras from the Blu Ray, it’ll be delicious, since this might be what other European countries will get.

Awh damn… Will the US Blu-Ray be region free? I really don’t know if I can stand waiting almost two months to get it here in Britain. If it isn’t, well I’ll just have to get it anyway and change the blu-ray drive on my computer to the US region and permanently seal Scott Pilgrim inside it. I doubt I’ll ever remove such amazingness from my computer. EVER.

Sadly, the market seems to have changed since the last time I had a 3 disc DVD out. In the US and Canada, Blu Ray sales mean that the market for special editions has gone way down. In our case, we couldn’t make a 2 disc edition work out in North America. So, I am afraid to say that maybe you might have to shell out for a BluRay. You won’t be disappointed if you do.

However, ironically, there will be a 2 disc DVD special edition in the UK / NZ / AUS with everything on it. So look out for that if you are in the one of those countries.

      • Aerodynamic

Oh, this is brilliant news. I live in the UK so I’ll happily wait for the DVD edition knowing it’ll come with all the extra content.

      • Sam

But will this mean that there will be a store exclusive with the other special features (like Wal-mart and Hot Fuzz)?

It’s not your fault dude, you’re presenting us with awesome, awesome extras, it’s marketing that’s screwing those of us who have either refused/can’t afford to upgrade our technology. (and hopefully not the same ones that really didn’t know how to advertise the movie in the first place)

Of course, if the film had made a squillion dollars at the US box office, I’m sure they would be a 2 disc DVD. But I’m not sure it worked out like that.

No, just kidding. But in all seriousness, for those in the US, just order the UK one and get yourself a region free DVD player (or better yet see if your dvd player is old enough/rubbish enough/awesome enough to have a manufacturer’s code for changing it to it’s default REGION 0. Most are online.

Yea but shelling out for a Bluray means shelling out for a player and possibly even a new tv to “get the full experience.” It’s kind of a slippery slope Universal is forcing us on :

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll buy it eventually, but not until the price goes down and I can afford the whole package.

The Blu-ray comes with a DVD so maybe buy it first week and then buy a BD player on Black Friday when they sell them for like $50.

        • Gengo

Yes, adopting the BluRay media means a few extras must accompany it as well – however, there are few movies that are WORTH the extra effort. This movie is solidly one of them. Having seen the movie seven times in theaters here in America (and dragging a different set of friends each time), and having seen the specs listed (BD-50, DTS-MA, etc.), there is no reason to believe that this will be anything less than reference quality.

If the entry price for all of the accessories (new TV, for instance) really is an issue – you can forgo the new TV for now (at the expense of Picture Quality) and still get access to all the features you want.

          • Dawn

            @Gengo and @joenostalgia

Okay, you two are great for all your suggestions, but I think my issue is simply that I feel coerced to buy into the whole Blu-ray thing right now just to get the extras. I think it’s kind of Universal to include a dvd in the combo pack so that someone can level up to Blu-ray eventually, but I just honestly feel a little alienated as a consumer by their decision.

I realize that Edgar Wright’s extras are always worth it, and that Blu-ray is the future of movies and will phase out dvds, but I just feel like in a way I’m losing my freedom to make this decision on my own. Okay, that’s it, I’m done being a downer on this!

          • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

Again, not my decision I’m afraid. I hope you enjoy the BluRay if you get it. I am bummed there’s no 2 disc DVD in the U.S. but it wasn’t possible to make the numbers work this time it seems.

Yea it’s a marketing/consumerism/capitalism thing, and not your fault in the slightest. Really though, thank you for putting as much time and effort to make this even more worthwhile for us fans.

Awesome. I was worried that I would have to spend a whole heap of money on upgrading to a Blu-ray player and such just to get all the extras, but you say Australia will be getting a 2 disc special edition DVD with all the extras? That, sir, rocks ultimate.

      • Sturt

YES! (Although I’ll probably shell out for the Blu Ray anyway because this film is going to look GLORIOUS in HD)

      • davecfilmgeek

So glad there is a 2 Disc-er out in the UK. Not every has the budget to upgrade to Blu.

I’m hating that the main reason I’m considering getting Blu is the lack of extras on many DVDs now. Not too concerned about picture and sound as I only have 26inch TV and now 5.1 :( BUT I love watching extras…

I’ve had the same DVD player for 9 and a half years, it hasn’t messed up once and hoped it still had some more mileage left in it..

This will be my first ever blu-ray. I’m quite excited as I unfortunately haven’t had a chance to see the film since release day and it feels like there’s a small but noticeable hole in my life without it.

The DVD is basically a free bonus. I love that they include them, perfect for ripping to iTunes so I can watch movies on my iPad.

      • Kenny

It also includes a digital copy so you don’t need the DVD to watch on your iPad. If you want to watch on a non-Apple device, though, the DVD is helpful. I also like having it so you can watch it at a friend’s house even if they don’t have a blu-ray player.
