Myself and the team worked around the clock on these extras, so I hope you appreciate them when the Blu Ray / DVD hits the streets in North America on November 9th.

A lot of tender loving care went into hours and hours of behind the scenes goodies, which show just how much work went into this film in the last few years.

I do hope you enjoy what we’ve put together.

So let’s have a look at what’s on the Blu Ray and DVD shall we? Right after one of our many production stills, this one from Young Neil himself, Johnny Simmons.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE CRITICS

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World slayed critics of every generation with its highly stylized visuals. The New York Times’ A.O. Scott raves “You may want to see it again as soon as it’s over.” Jeremy Smith of “AintItCoolNews” calls the film “Wholly original. There’s never been a movie like it” and Rossiter Drake of the San Francisco Examiner pronounces it a “bold, brilliant spectacle.” Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is “far and away the funniest movie of the summer,” according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Roger Moore, and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls the film “a breathless rush of a movie that jumps off the screen, spins your head around and then stealthily works its way into your heart. It’s a game changer.”

SYNOPSIS

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-Omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Will have details of the UK / NZ / AUS editions soon too. Check back in for those.

  • Manni

I wonder when some details about UK edition will be available - there is some limited steelbook BD edition, but i don’t know if it will have everything from normal edition. Still - about to preorder it soon anyway.

    Hi,
I’m a HUGE fan of Scott Pilgrim. I’m so sad that the US won’t have the 2 disc edition. I’m going to get the blue ray, the hour it comes out. I’ll wait in line if I have to. Will the blue ray have features though? Like bloopers, deleted scenes, and so on. I’ve seen the movie in theaters 6 times. And I never go tired of it. I will move to the UK if I have to get the features. I have to say that this is the BEST movie in the world.

    Sincerely, #1 Scott Pilgrim fan

  • rogercamel

Any idea where in NZ I can get the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital combo in NZ? I’ve looked everywhere and some places are saying it isn’t going to be distributed in NZ. I can’t even find it on Amazon any more… unless I’m missing something. What is this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scott-Pilgrim-vs-World-Steelbook/dp/B0046A915A/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1286763560&sr=1-3

Steelbook? Sounds like something I’ll want. Does it include all versions as described?

BTW Edgar, incredible movies, I hope you get all the money you ever need to keep making them. The closest thing I’ve ever seen to Scott Pilgrim is Shaolin Soccer. Apples and oranges to be sure, but worth a watch :).

Luckily, I am saving up for a PS3, so I am certainly shelling out for the blu-ray version. Hell, even if I didn’t have that in mind, I would have done so anyway. Who knows, maybe this film will end up like Austin Powers: didn’t do so well in theatres, exploded onto the scene in DVD release. All I can really do is show it to the friends who have yet to see it who I badgered to see it for a month straight.

  • alexf85

Amazon.com is a little unclear on this but will the Bluray be region free? I’m going to see it at the end of October in Germany (more than once when time allows) but it would be great if I could import that set without any hassle afterwards and without having to wait.

    Cheers,

    alex

I cannot wait for the blu-ray! I saw the movie 5 times in theaters-individually convincing friends how good the movie is and going to see it with them. I did my best trying to make you and the studio “squillions” of dollars…

  • Wasef

Pledge to buy the DVD and give Mr. Wright and Mr. Lee what they deserve and lacked at the box office!

Hey edgar, as much as I’m psyched that the Blu Ray version will be coming very soon to all of us, i’m actually writing here to show my disappointment that the studio in charge of bringing Universal Movies in Malaysia (United International Pictures Malaysia) is cancelling their intention. Malaysian fans are currently very angry at the decision because I remember them quoting that “sale will not be plenty” in the country. If there’s anyway you could convince the studio to reverse the decision, we would be entirely grateful because I still remember Malaysia having Hot Fuzz, and this shouldn’t be missed.

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

I share your disappointment, but it’s a tough one to reverse. I would love you to see it on a big screen.

      • Azlil Shah

I understand. Thank you for listening and I hope to have a blast soon on the Level Up edition of the Blu Ray. Thank you for making such a wonderful and kudos to everyone in the team.

  • Infrafan

I can’t tell you how excited I am about this. No Blu-Ray player yet, but I’m still picking up the Blu-Ray. Be picking up a copy for my special lady as well. We went to see it on a date and both absolutely loved every aspect of it. You never disappoint with extras when most give up on them and sadly lack. The two I’m looking forward to the most? The classic trivia track (thank you) and your commentary with one Mr. Bill Pope. He is my favorite cinematographer and it would be great to see you two work together again in the future. Perhaps Ant-Man? *nudge, nudge*

Thanks for such a fantastic film and for loving both what you do and the fans who love you.

  • Kiron

This movie just came out a few days ago where I live (Trinidad & Tobago for the record) and like every other Edgar Wright film, I absolutely loved it. I was there as soon as it came out. I had nothing but the highest hopes for it. I can’t wait to watch it again and again on Bluray and dig into all the special features. Maybe it will finally get the recognition it deserves.

  • Anonymous

    Can’t wait!
Particularly looking forward to drowning in the extras the way I did with Hot Fuzz. Love any behind the scenes stuff.
Such a shame it couldn’t be out in time for xmas, would’ve loved to snuggle up on boxing day night and watch it.

  • DillonToddBaker

after reading this, i definately preo-ordered the bluray combo pack off amazon. I even shelled out the extra cash to get it shipped to my house day of release. 3 days ago i went out and bought all the books. I also saw the movie in theaters 4 times. one time at an early screening,I think its safe to say i’ve reached Knives chau level of obsession over this series

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

      Achievement unlocked.

I need to know if the Spanish voices of the BluRay edition movie are in Spanish from Spain or from South America, and the same with the BluRays of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

Fact. It will still look ace on a big screen whether it’s today, tomorrow or 2030. So please don’t download. It doesn’t help films like this get made ever again.

Seeing how much work everyone put into this film, I don’t see how anyone with a clear conscience could do that. It feels good to support visionaries. Just my 2 cents…

Aarg! I’ve been waiting for the DVD release just to see all the extras, ever since I saw the first trailer. The extras, the commentaries, the “‘O-Meter”s on Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, and the North American Spaced release were all absolutely fantastic and added so much to my already intense love of those releases, so I was super excited about what they’d let you do with such a bigger production.

Now even when the DVD is released in Canada, I STILL can’t watch the extras, because nobody in my household, or even in my family back home, have a Blu-Ray player.

    Not cool, Universal. Not cool.

I get that they’re trying to advance the format but the fact is the technology is still expensive, so few people actually have it. They are catering to the minority. And with this film in particular, the main target audience is college students; we are among the poorest of the poor, we don’t have Blu-Ray players.

That being said, I had kind of expected this would happen and already anticipated that this would the be the first movie I’ve ever bought more than one version of. (Incidentally, it is also one of only three movies I’ve ever seen in theatres more than once)

Nov 9th, both the DVD and the Blu-Ray edition will be mine. Oh yes, they will be.

  • Neil Butler

that’s awesome but when will it be coming to the UK?

I’ve still not seen it, it comes out 26th October in Switzerland :P

Want to know a cool fact you can be proud of? I wanted to move to London by the 15th October, but I don’t know if they still show it then in the UK.

And since seeing Scott Pilgrim on the big screen is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, I delayed moving to UK to next year, just so I can see it in theaters. =D

    • Waiter

      26th October in Switzerland?
Seems more like end of November, if you happen to live in the German-speaking part. And 2011 for the Romandie. Which is, of course, highly irritating.

Oh, all you cinema-owners… when will you ever learn that it is not the best idea of them all to bring a movie to the cinemas when you can already have the DVD legally purchased at home?
(I mean, not that I wouldn’t go to see it when it hits theaters, but still… I feel a tiny bit let down.)

      • Daryl Sudden

        bah :( you’re right… >_>

This is great news! Ah, I can’t wait! *goes and waits by the door…for two months* I gotta ask though, are there going to be any retailer exclusives for this? (like different packaging, extra discs, or downloadable content for the Scott Pilgrim game if you buy at target, best buy, walmart etc.) I mean don’t mind double or triple dipping or anything (will be doing that anyway for the differently colored dvd and blu-ray packaging) but a heads up on that would be beyond nice. I’d like to snag all of the different variations before they sell out, if there are any. Oh and Edgar; we’re all still waiting on that mystery character and the two(?) modes left in the game! Any hints on that yet or is that still being kept a secret? ; )

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

They are some game codes on the Blu Ray…

This is amazing. Thankyou so much for putting together these amazing extras. I saw the film 6 times in theatres so I’ll be heading straight for the special features.

  • Anonymous

OHH MAAAH GAAAAAAAWWWWDDD, YES. You did an amazing job on this, Edgar Wright. I can honestly say that Scott Pilgrim was the best experience I’ve had in a theater since Titanic(first movie I had ever seen in a cinema). I’ve watched it 5 times and I’ve told everybody about it.
If there was some epically gaudy and expensive collector’s edition, I’d buy it right now. 7 times. I guess I’ll settle for the Blu-ray Combo Pack, BTW those special features sound absolutely epic and I’m so excited for them. You actually answered one of my questions about special features on the /filmcast a few weeks back, thank you for that.

    Hey Edgar,

Just wanted to say how much I love your films. Ever since I was fortunate enough to see Spaced here in the States I knew you were my kind of guy. Saw Scott Pilgrim 3 times on the big screen and I’ll more than likely get two copies of the Blu-ray packs to keep supporting you - Cheers!

When Hot Fuzz was released on DVD, Tesco did a Father’s Day promotion including a Giant Yorkie bar for a tenner.

Is there any chance you can have a quiet word and get them to do a similar promo on the Blu-ray for Christmas/New Year? (£15 and chuck in a Terrys Chocolate Orange instead maybe?!)

  • jonny c

oh man, SUPER EXCITED! This can’t come out sooner! Thanks for a great movie!

Any chance we’ll get another chance at the “Clash at Demonhead” music video?! So good.

I am looking forward to having this on blu-ray. That said, I wish it wasn’t coming out until after the holidays because that would mean that audiences were smarter and went to see this in theaters.

For generations, people will be regretting not seeing this film in theaters. “That was great, but just imagine how awesome it was on the big screen!”

Wondering what movie I’ll bump from the iPad to make room for “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”…

    • Wes

      Every and/or any movie!

I would bump my fucking showreel if I have to just to get Scott Pilgrim on my iPad.

    Best day ever

I’ve had a pretty cool lead-up to Scott Pilgrim. Sadly, missed out on the very special screening at Comic Con as some dude stabbed a guy in the ear with a pencil and they stopped letting people into Hall H, but it was ok, because…..

…..I then happened to casually be walking down Hollywood Boulevard at the same time as the Scott Pilgrim premiere in LA! Decided to wait across the road from the Chinese Theatre for a couple of hours (once you get a spot at the front you’re don’t wanna leave) and then Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman crossed the LA traffic to come and give us high fives and autographs which was brilliant….but still no movie for me.

I casually walked away and headed towards the sound of jazz music coming from the Hollywood complex. On the way, I bumped into Guillermo Del Toro and Quentin Tarantino within seconds of each other and got both their autographs - they were on their way to the Scott Pilgrim premiere! And because of that I now have two out of my three favourite director’s autographs. (Edgar, you’re the other one)

I arrived back in UK in eager anticipation of the film’s release. Weeks passed and I was so excited that on the day it came out I managed to twist and tear my knee tissue in a pathetic work-related accident. No movie for me, but it was ok because…….

………….I finally saw Scott Pilgrim vs The World on Sunday evening - and it was EPIC!!!! An amazing feast for the eyes, ears, mind and soul which blew me away.

Now counting the weeks until super DVD with loads of special extras arrives. Thank you Mr Wright for yet another beautiful creation. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Melancholick

Hey, Edgar; speaking as a fan and DVD aficionado, I just want to thank you for making sure that this release was a labor of love. I was nursing a sore sense that the studio would just cram out a fast pre-Christmas version which was stripped to the bone, but I reckon the job you’ve done on this just convinced me to run out and buy a Blu-Ray player.

(Which is worth noting, as my previous blood-oath was to hold off on getting one until Lucas released the damn original trilogy… at least there’s one director out there who still brings out my geek streak and opens up my purse strings.)

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

Thank you. I will not let you down with extras. It will take you days to get through it.

      • Melancholick

Edgar, you couldn’t let me down if you took it upon yourself to direct “The 6ast and the 6urious”… I’d still be there on opening day. On the off chance that I’ve got you “on the line,” however; I’m a crafter of Mexican folk art, and I took it upon myself to make this shortly after my SvP midnight-showing experience:

        http://www.flickr.com/photos/comradescalacas/4996381079/

It doesn’t seem right to sell this along with my usual wares, and I was contemplating how I might send it to you as a tribute to the endless entertainment you’ve provided me since the “Spaced” years. If you’re at all interested in adding something to your desk (It’s a one-of-a-kind; I’ve got a “Shaun of the Dead” one on my own workspace that I refuse to part with), then let me know. I’d be happy to ship it across the pond to your agency.

        Cheers!

        • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

That is awesome. I love it.

          • Melancholick

Well, that just makes my entire week. (He typed, with a stupidly affable grin)

Again, if you’d like it, just let me know where to ship it. My e-mail’s “[email protected],” and the post is on me. ;)

Can we see the “Shaun” calaca too please?

  • Lil Slugger

Loved the movie, my all time favorite. Nov. 9th is my b-day and i’ll be treating myself to some Scott Pilgrim, a bad of goodies, and I’ll take the day off. Good times… Thx Edgar for all the hard work, I have seriously never enjoyed a movie so much in my life. Me and my buds were the only people laughing, but man we were rolling in the aisles. Really looking forward to your next project, didn’t see this one coming so I’m sure you’ll surprise me again. Holla!

  • http://dvdnewsflash.wordpress.com/ Shawn Francis

Okay, I know this a Scott Pilgrim comment thread, but since I recently discovered this site, I’ve had a terrible desire to tell you how much I love HOT FUZZ, and damn it, Edgar, you must hear me out. Ready? It’s awesome! Wait, I can be a bit more verbose than that. I love just about everything about it, the actors, their characters, the plot, it’s damn funny as all hell, and the action kicks ass. The title, however, has always reminded me of a porno. Which is not a detriment by any means, at least, not in my book. And, please, dear God, tell me you’ve got an idea for a sequel. Got the perfect tagline for ya: HOT FUZZ II: THE FUZZ JUST GOT HOTTER! Admit it, that’s stupidly brilliant, and a perfect title for the porno spoof that will eventually get made. You, Simon and Nick are a force to be reckoned with! Keep making those movies, man!

is the collector’s edition the same as the combo pack?

you should have advertised the hell out of this movie it reached fan boys and gamers but failed to get to reach mainstream audiences and i can tell you this is my favorite movie of all time i just wish every one saw it… sadly people are stupid and just cant relies how genius this movie was :3

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

      Hey, we tried.

      • Matthew

I think the advertising was just fine. I watched the effing second trailer that was released with (ting tings opening) about a bijillion times. The trailer was just as amazing as the movie. It was honestly Michael Cera who ruined the publicity. Every single person I talked to said “It looks like another Michael Cera movie.” Obviously it’s not, obviously Michael Cera was extremely bad ass!

Scott: I feel like I learned something, if only I weren’t dead!
        sooo alone
        Ramona: (You’re not alone)
        Extra Life appears
        Scott: RIGHT!
        2x bonus!

Still gets the adrenaline pumping. Everything about that movie is perfect. Sorry, geeking out.

    • http://www.edgarwrighthere.com Edgar Wright

      Hey, we tried.

    • http://flickr.com/suomynona Matthew

There’s really nothing they (Edgar Wright or Universal) could have done more to promote this film. Edgar began posting a daily photo on flickr during pre-production through the end of the process. The iPad game. The interactive trailer. The video blogs that Edgar posted from the set on Vimeo. I was catching up on shows on my Tivo the other night and there were a ton of TV spots for the film on all different kinds of shows. The build your own avatar. The trailers, each of them made me want to see the film even more. The red vinyl. The remix trailers. No stone was left unturned in my opinion.

If folks had a hang up about Michael Cera, too bad for them because they missed out on a great performance. Sure, he played Scott Pilgrim, but I was excited about seeing the film because of the trailers. I had not read any of the books (yet), but I had a feeling that the movie was going to live up to the trailers when people like comedian Patton Oswalt commented on it via Twitter. Cera was great. Then again, I enjoyed Cera in “Youth and Revolt.” I didn’t see “Year One” because it wasn’t well received. I haven’t seen “Nick and Norah’s Playlist” yet, but I liked Cera in “Juno” and “Superbad” and thought that “Arrested Development” was one of the best comedies of the last 20 years on network television.

But Cera was only one character. Winstead was great in both “Death Proof” and “Live Free and Die Hard.” Those were the only movies I’ve seen her in.

I didn’t see “Hot Fuzz” or “Shaun Of The Dead” in theaters. I only recently watched “Hot Fuzz” on DVD. Both are very good films. The difference between the success of “Inception” and “Scott Pilgrim” is the trailer wasn’t able to say “Brought to you by the director of ‘Dark Knight'” and “Inception” had Leo. I saw “Inception” twice in theaters. I saw “Scott Pilgrim” 25 times. Better story, better screenplay, better casting, and dare I say, better performance in the lead roles…

Speaking of casting… as the movie was being made, I became fans of several of the actors that had been cast.

Alison Pill was great on season two of “In Treatment.” Anna Kendrick on “Up In The Air.” Aubrey Plaza on “Parks & Recreation.” Brie Larson on “United States of Tara.” Mae Whitman on “Parenthood.”

I hadn’t seen Brandon Routh in anything except “Chuck” and disliked his character on that show. I was looking forward to Jason Schwartzman, but his character on SPvTW was probably my least favorite. Brandon Routh? Probably earned the biggest laughs at all of the shows I saw. He was very funny.

Not sure what they could have done better. Everyone raves about the special effects, but for me it was all about the casting and the screenplay. And that’s why SPvTW will become a cult favorite on home video.
