The Wright Stuff London | Double Bill: Don’t Look Now & Carrie @ The Prince Charles Cinema, Friday October 9th (6:30pm)

You asked for it. You got it.

I am delighted to say that I will be doing a series of Wright Stuff double bills at the fantastic Prince Charles Cinema in London’s most London-y Leicester Square.

I have had a long love affair with the Prince Charles Cinema, both as an audience member and as a director. Not only have I presented screenings of GRINDHOUSE, SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ there, but way back in November 1995, the Prince Charles was the only cinema in the world to screen A FISTFUL OF FINGERS regularly on its initial release.

So first up in a little irregular series of double bills with yours truly presenting is…

Nicholas Roeg’s DON’T LOOK NOW (1973) and Brian De Palma’s CARRIE (1976).

These are not simply two of my favourite horror films of all time, but two of my very favourite films of all time.

Nic Roeg’s DON’T LOOK NOW starring Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie is a superlative supernatural film with some of the best editing in cinematic history. It’s been an influence on many a film over the years including THE SIXTH SENSE and (yes) SHAUN OF THE DEAD. If you’ve never seen it, don’t miss a chance to see it on a big screen. It’s haunted me since I first saw it one late night on BBC2.

And Brian De Palma’s CARRIE is simply magnificent. In my opinion the best Stephen King adaptation with a simply amazing cast: Nancy Allen, Amy Irving, PJ Soles, John Travolta and two Oscar nominees Piper Laurie and Sissy Spacek. Add in De Palma’s amazing visuals with incredible continuous takes, split screen and backwards flashbacks, plus Pino Donnagio’s incredible score and you have a stone cold classic.

I will be on hand too - with maybe some little extra nuggets to show between the films.

See you there.

UnbeLIEVable double-bill! Any special guests, like DePalma and Sutherland? Wow, that’d be sweet.

Don’t Look Now is next in my Netflix queue as of now. I recently saw Robert Altman’s Images (1972) with Susannah York which for some reason the one sheet for Don’t Look Now reminds me of. A brilliantly surreal movie. Cheers.
    PS
William Katt in Carrie: Simon Pegg’s long lost brother? The truth is out there…

    Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant.
    Lucky Londoners!
    Have a fantastic time.

Ah William Katt. We met him last year. Well, I say “we”. Actually Dolfyn met him (and became his bff) while the rest of us hovered in the background waving slightly.
He was lovely by the way.

There’s no way i’m going to make it there for 6.30. I’ve always wanted to see Carrie on the big screen hope it’s the 2nd film of the night.
