Here’s my Directors Cut trailer for HOT FUZZ that I edited just before the release in February 2007, inspired by the piece of score AVENGING ANGEL by Robert Rodriguez.

  • I’m glad I picked up the BD. This is one of the few times I’ve been overwhelmed by special features! (Btw, the transfer is superb.)

    Also, I realized why Hot Fuzz is so rewatchable: like Back to the Future; there is not one moment that doesn’t support the story, characters, or mood (with the exception of the final action scenes).

    • I didn’t. I went to Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design (BPCAD) - now called something else I think, at Wallisdown for two years in 1992-1994 and did an ND in Audio Visual Design.

      I was turned down for the HD in Film because I was too young and told to come back in five years.

      I have since seen them use my name as an alumni of the very course I was turned down for.

      Was never at the University - but did room with some people from there and indeed used their library and canteen on some occasions.

    Trivia1: Hot Fuzz was your first movie released in Mexico’s cinemas.

    Trivia2: When it was released on DVD, in the cover it had the line “De los creadores de Shaun of the Dead” (From the creators of Shaun of the Dead); although Shaun of the Dead’s latinamerican title is “Desesperar de los Muertos” (a mirror homage to Romero’s Dawn of the Dead latinamerican title: Despertar de los Muertos), Shaun of the Dead is far more popular in Mexico by its original title than the latinamerican one.

    i remember seeing this trailer when Empire wrote about it (at least i think it was empire) its awesome and the soundtrack is frickin brilliant.
    Edgar do you ever think..’hmm my trailers all seem mentally fast and action packed, maybe i should slow down before i cause seizures due to amazingly quick cuts’?
    it’s insane how much you cram into your trailers without giving too much away…we’re you just sitting at the computer going ‘that shot, and that one..heck all of those and i want them to last for the duration of a blink’

    Wasn’t this trailer partly inspired by one of the LETHAL WEAPON trailers you saw during your brief stint working at a cinema? I think I remember you saying that on one of the FUZZ comms.

    • Not quite. That was just the music we used within the film.

    Hot Fuzz was the first work of yours that I saw, and it’s what made me become a fan. 20 minutes after my first viewing, I was at the store buying both Spaced and Shaun of the Dead!

    The blu ray is supposedly selling at best buy now. I can’t wait to get it. I don’t have a best buy though. This movie gets better every time I watch it. Definitely could tell it was a Rodriguez homage.

        • He is awesome at scores - I think he’s contributed to pretty much every film he’s directed, but also does a lot of crew stuff too, including cinematography, operating steadicam, VFX and editing - he’s probably one of the most hands-on big budget filmmakers at the moment.

          I noticed in a making of documentary (Once Upon a Time in Mexico) he had guitars on the sides of the monitor magliners while shooting, so that he could pick them up and play them during production! Most probably for when he gets a riff in his head during a scene.

            He did the score for Kill Bill Volume 2 for a dollar. Tarantino paid him back by directing the car chase sequence in Sin City for the same price.
